Are you swimming in a sea of wrapping paper leftover from the holidays? Instead of tossing it all in the trash, consider repurposing it. Read on to find three easy ways to upcycle your plain and patterned gift wrapping paper.
1) Handle with Care: Shred into Pretty Shavings to Protect Breakables
How-to:
“Using a bunch of tissue, wrapping paper, and cards, I shredded them with our electronic shredding machine here at Stampington. I wanted a neutral palette so I just used natural colors like gold, brown, ivory, and tan. Anything that was bright I set aside to use and shred another time, when I want a more ‘colorful’ batch of shredded paper for packaging.” – Vanessa Spencer
2) Turn Trash into Handmade Tags:
How-to:
Paper gift bags can only be reused so many times before they start looking worn and tattered.
“I was looking at leftover paper bags from our holiday party, trying to figure out how to creatively use them. I realized I could maximize the material and make 4 gift tags out of each bag by cutting the handles in half and then cutting out tag shapes. To make them a little bit more special, I sewed leftover pieces of tissue paper onto them, and added a handwritten note.” – Vanessa Spencer
3) Wrap with Rustic-Chic Style:
How-to:
“For an antique look, use the back side of crumpled wrapping paper. After opening presents at most holiday parties, the wrap gets fairly crinkled; but I think the texture only adds to the beauty of it! Just add some ribbon and you’ve got a pretty little present.” – Vanessa Spencer.

[…] Now that the holidays are over don’t throw all that pretty wrapping in the trash, recycle it into tags, packaging and more. Stamping and Co. has some great eco friendly tips on their blog. […]
This is a quite clever idea! I’ll be using this idea for wrapping some gifts for Valentine’s day. My girls will love creating new gift wraps from old stuff, plus it’s a nice recycling lesson for them. Thanks for sharing!
