Ten Ways to Create with Kraft-Colored Products + Giveaway

Kraft Essentials

There’s something warm and inviting about kraft-colored products. Maybe it’s the soft shades of brown or the subtle texture of the porous material. It’s like an echo from the past, before paper products underwent multiple chemical treatments to get that just-right sheen of glossy business-letterhead perfection. And maybe it’s the uncomplicated ruggedness of these products which helps to spark the sort of inspiration that is born in the wiser but simpler parts of our mind.

With such a beautiful coloration and sturdiness to these materials, kraft-colored crafting supplies are great for all sorts of projects. Here at Somerset Place, we’re hoping to jumpstart your creativity by sharing ten inventive ways to use kraft-colored products:

1. Alter a Kraft-Colored Journal

Je Taime Journal ProjectGive your new diary a down-to-earth feel with the rich tan coloration of a moleskine kraft journal. With a variety of sizes and a choice between a darker or lighter cover, you can give your thoughts the perfect canvas for paint, collage, stamps, embellishments, and more.

2. Package Special Homemade Goods

Birds and Blooms Kraft Colored Treat BagsDifficult for making an airtight seal and often covered in ink and chemicals, normal wrapping paper is not well suited for packaging edible goods. However, kraft-colored treat bags make it easy to securely enclose treats and are available in multiple sizes with interesting patterns like playful polka dots and bold stripes. Some kraft-colored bags come without a design, which means you can alter them for special occasions, themed parties, or anything else you can come up with. If you’re packaging baked goods, you can even share your recipe by printing it directly on kraft-colored bags.

3. Make Gorgeous Handcrafted Cards

Just Because Kraft Colored CardCreate unique embellishments on this ready-to-alter material that will give all your handcrafted cards a special and original touch. Kraft-colored paper is well known for being a very sturdy material, so whether you’re making a festive collage or an elegant invitation – it’s a great canvas for pen, paint, and other mixed-media applications. If you need some ideas, check out our free Card Making Projects like this one shown at left, which also features kraft-colored envelopes.

4. Start a Recipe Book or a Recipe Box

Kraft Colored Recipe BookAssemble your recipe collection all in one place, and give it a distinct vintage feel by writing your ingredients and instructions on kraft-colored filler paper. If you use a worn journal cover from Tim Holtz’s Idea-ology Collection (shown at left), you can add more paper, tags, and page pockets as you go. To create a distinct recipe box, you can alter or use a unique container as is, and write down your recipes on kraft-colored index cards. Regardless of the project you choose, the end result can be passed down from generation to generation.

5. Alter and Embellish Gift Tags

Kraft Colored Grubby TagsBig or small, a kraft-colored surface is a lovely canvas to work on. With a set of kraft-colored tags you can alter or decorate them however you see fit. With a little glitter, paint, and cream-colored lace these tags can take on a shabby chic appearance. Alternatively, you can go very simple with just a well-placed stamp and some fancy free-hand lettering for a more minimalist look. Whatever you decide, your altered tags will be completely personal and one-of-a-kind.

6. Custom Gift Wrap

Kraft Colored Gift WrapA Natural Kraft Wrapping Paper Roll gives you the flexibility to personalize your own gift wrap. Add your own custom pattern, write a thoughtful quote, or create a completely one-of-a-kind design by painting, drawing, or stamping directly onto your packages. Some manufactured wrapping paper creases and wrinkles easily; this isn’t the case with this paper. What I like about the kraft paper roll is that it’s very forgiving, even for someone like me, who isn’t the greatest at wrapping presents.

7. Kraft-Colored Accent Pieces

Kraft Colored Bingo TagsKraft-colored embellishments come in all shapes and sizes, which make them great for nearly any type of project. A simple or elaborate kraft embellishment is a creative way to add depth or a primitive look, and while you can buy these accents, you also have the option of making your own. Have pieces of kraft-colored paper left over? Your scraps don’t need to be destined for the trash. Cut them into shapes, or add color, pieces of tissue, and stamps, and use these bits to decorate your cards, scrapbooks, and journal pages.

8. Use Kraft-Colored Paper as a Canvas

Natrual Kraft Wrapping Paper RollThe stark contrast of black charcoal drawn across the warm surface of a kraft-colored page is sure to make a lasting impression. Alternatively, add paint, chalk, or oil pastels to make something unexpected and unique. With Kraft Wrapping Paper Rolls you can create a canvas that is as big or small as your creativity demands.

9. Parchment Paper Bouquets

You only need five supplies to recreate this idea: parchment paper, a stamp, ink, scrapper’s floss, and lavender bundle.

I love Kraft colored products and use them all the time. I would use the small paper bags for giving candy and fun treats in. The tissue and parchment would be wonderful for decoupage. For the tags, I could use them on gifts, cards, layouts. Those are just to name a few. I would love to win the giveaway and put some kraft products to creative use.

  5. I really like the idea of using Kraft paper as a canvas. I cover my workable with it and when I feel it needs to be replaced, I just cut it off and re-purpose it as gift wrap or use as collage paper for decorating storage boxes. The Kraft journal would be my personal art journal. It would have my graphite drawings on the cover and my watercolor illustrations nestled inside. I’d use the gift tags as labels for my handmade clothing and tote bags. The most unique idea to me is the Parchment Paper Bouquets. Those are so beautifully elegant! Thanks for the chance to win :)

Ooh, la la..I make the yummiest ever caramels, a beautiful goldeny-kraft color in their own glory, individually wrapped in cellophane (the only thing I have found that doesn’t stick to the soft yummy goodness) and then packaged in those darling little bags and tied with bakers twine, or even jute or plain cotton string. How irresistible would that be? Even a small kraft tag attatched describing the contents…

I love wrapping gifts in Kraft papers!

  106. Barbara says:

I love the simple, organic feeling of Kraft papers. The ideas given certainly spark even more creativity. I am a teacher and a stamper who would love these products. I have used Kraft paper on bulletin boards (they make great trees!) and with my ancient history class (we created our own version of the Lascaux cave in our hallway). I also make cards for our church to send to shut-in seniors and get well cards to the ill and hospitalized and enjoy using Kraft cards with black and white or just one colors – it emphasizes the simplicity of the material and the chosen color. I would like to use Kraft products for some wonderful spring gifts: a bouquet of herbs wrapped with Kraft parchment with a recipe card, nestled in a gift bag with tissue and a card!

  107. Deb Brown says:

Wow, what a selection. I’ve used some of these, tags, journals, paper, but not all and appreciate the inspiration with the rest. I love the look and hope I win!!

  110. This past Christmas, I wrapped presents in KRAFT paper and used a white pen to draw different Zentangles in a corner of each gift. I was quite pleased how they turned out.

  111. Terry says:

I always find great pleasure and inspiration in the Kraft color! Love using Kraft paper for wrapping paper and I tape it to my work table as a protective layer which holds all the splash and grand colorful mess; Then it gets a second life cut up and used in my mixed media art. Kraft paper and it’s off shoots be it parchment, tissue and such never fails– kraft color is a classic!

  112. Debbie says:

I use Kraft paper products quite often…and I especially love kraft tissue paper & kraft gift boxes & bags…and cards & envelopes & paper. Kraft waxed bags are a new favorite of mine…stunning for elevating any little gift to the next level. The color is a great neutral & not as harsh as white can be. I’ve used it for years & it’s nice to see so many kraft paper options for sale.

  113. Kraft is probably my most used colour of Cardstock. It just goes with everything. I’d love to play with a prize pack.

  114. Terry Hodgdon says:

I’ve always enjoyed kraft paper and products. I would love using these “krafty” products to create a family recipe book/journal.

Thank you for all of the creative ideas which inspire me to make things for my friends and family.

Oh la la! I love kraft paper, but I haven’t made much with it yet. This definitely gave me some ideas!

  117. Angela Alcott says:

Thank you for always inspiring! Art does not need to be expensive. I love kraft paper because it’s found most everywhere and you don’t need any special tools. It reminds me of yesteryear. It’s simple. Kraft paper can range from rustic to elegant looking. The possibilities are endless….

  118. Angel says:

Im planning an “art party” for my kids and friends over the summer and Ive already starting collecting supplies. I love the way Kraft goes with everything and gives it a sweet almost vintage feel.

I was thinking today about what I could use to make a couple of May Day baskets. The parchment paper would be perfect!

  121. Laura Strack says:

  122. Kim M. says:

I love kraft because it’s so versatile, and I like the utilitarian look. I’d want to use the kraft index cards to make a few mini journals. Something I could throw in my purse with a few pens and embellishments, to play with on the go!

I have loved the kraft paper products for some time now and love the new products coming out with the use of the kraft paper. Am going to be making a mini album with them. Thanks for the chance to win.

  124. Kraft paper is good looking. For gift-wrap I like to turn grocery bags inside out then embellish with rubber stamps and make gift tags out of recycled cards. I use raffia for the ribbon. Looks good and can be composted when done with it!

  125. Sheila Berman says:

All the Kraft products are terrific. I’ve been using paper grocery bags in my recycled paper journals and love their texture. Maybe it’s time to branch out ….

  129. Carol Barol says:

I would use either the kraft colored parchment or the kraft roll paper and stamp or paint on it (or both). Then I’d cut it into strips and pleat it with my sewing machine. Would be a fun edge for a chipboard cone filled with some goodies!

  130. Lori says:

I love making bags out of the paper for gifts and tags for selling my art! I have also used the paper for custom order forms. So fun to personalize. Would love to explore more with some paper!!

Such a great collection of items is making it hard to decide but I do like the number ephemera rounds, the Moleskine journals. I love journals such as these and could not resist stamping and printing the covers.

    Thanks.

    Book and journal making :D
