DIY to Try: Girls Who Read Art Journal Project
Creating art journal pages is a great way to experiment with new techniques or color combinations without fear of “messing it up.” I have been trying to stretch my creative wings lately when it comes to color and because this palette has always appealed to me, I decided to give it a whirl on an art journal page. I think this project is a great excuse to set aside time to do what you love – something creative – over the weekend.Market List:

- Ranger Texture Paste – 4 oz

- American Crafts Project Life Journal Pen
- Unity Stamp Christy Tomlinson Cling Mount Stamp – She Art Doodles
- Ranger Ink Dylusions Ink Spray – Tangerine Dream by Dyan Reaveley
- Ranger Ink Dylusions Ink Spray – Bubblegum Pink by Dyan Reaveley

Project Instructions:
- Spray your pages with a light mist of water, and then add Dylusions Spray Inks. I dabbed the ink with a paper towel roll between layers, and kept adding color until I was satisfied.
- Layer stencils onto the pages, using Dylusions White Ink and dabbing away the excess as you go.

- When you’re happy with your background, you can use a heat tool to dry the pages more quickly. Due to a happy accident that involved setting down a container on my right page, I was left with a water mark that I ended up really liking because it added even more depth and interest to my page.
- When the pages are dry to the touch, layer an alphabet stencil onto the right page, and spread a thin layer of texture paste over it with a palette knife. I love using texture paste with stencils because the results are so smooth and crisp.
- Next cut out any desired images and text, and glue them onto your pages. Outline the text and images with a black journal pen, and stamp text onto your right page.
Feel free to experiment with you own combination of colors. Put your own spin on your art journal pages by using the text from your favorite quote or an uplifting message that will inspire you to continue to create – even when you’re tired, or life gets crazy, or the kids need to be fed … again.
