Gold Leaf and Emboss Your Finished Coloring Pages from The Coloring Studio

Gold Leaf and Emboss Your Finished Coloring Pages from The Coloring StudioFor the newest issue of The Coloring Studio, I decided to apply some mixed-media techniques to some of my favorite designs, the owl and bee designs by Crystal Brashear. For the owl, I used a gold leafing technique to create a foiled design on pieces of the design. For the bee, I applied Relique powders to create a raised, dimensional shine to aspects of the work. I then used gelatos as a watercolor to paint in the design.

Directions:

Using a water brush, pick up pigment from a gelato stick and paint in your coloring page.

With gel medium, paint in certain areas of the design, then lay gold leaf sheets overtop of the gel medium, patting down with your finger. When gel medium is dry, brush away the excess gold leaf.

Peel away pieces of corrugated cardboard. Blend iced rosé and gold champagne gelatos color onto sections of the cardboard. Apply dots of gel medium with the handle of a paint brush, then adhere gold leaf sheets to the dots. Brush away excess gold leaf. Mount coloring page onto the cardboard sheet.

Embossed Bumble Bee Design

Use a water brush to pick up pigment from the gelatos sticks and paint in the bee design.

With the iced rosé gelato stick, scribble around the outside edge of the page. Wet the page and draw the pigment towards the center of the page with a brush. Blend until satisfied with the overall look.
