Color Tools with Faber Castell Part 2: Give Thanks Hand-Lettering Project + A Free Download
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. We eat pumpkin pie made with my grandmother’s special recipe, we watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and we play cards while we nibble on leftovers. On Saturday, we have a big family Thanksgiving meal with extended relatives from all over the world. It’s a time to remind ourselves of where we came from and to be grateful for what’s happened over the past year.
This project is the perfect hostess gift to take to your big family Thanksgiving meal, or to decorate your home for the coming holiday.
Supplies:
- Faber-Castell Gift Set Brush Pen Set of 15
- Faber-Castell Gelatos Mix and Match Manhattan – 4 pack
- Blending Tool
- Watercolor paper
Instructions:
Draw your hand-lettering design with pencil on watercolor paper. Outline the letters using the brown marker.
The Faber-Castell Big Brush Pens are waterproof when dry, so you can do many techniques on your brush-lettering without risking bleeding.
When the marker is completely dry, spritz water with a mister onto the watercolor paper until page is thoroughly saturated. Scribble Iced Rosé and Gold Champagne onto the wet surface. For this page, I scribbled Gold Champagne over the hand-lettering, then bordered the entire page in Iced Rosé. Move the blending tool in small circles to blend the colors together.
Tip: This wet blend technique with gelatos keeps the gelatos from sticking to the page too much before blending and helps to hide the scribble marks. Whenever using especially bumpy surfaces, use the wet blend to keep gelatos from accumulating too much in the crevices.
When gelatos have dried completely, go over the lettering with the brown marker again to add definition.
