Gratitude Art Journal Page Project Tutorial:
Step 1 – Find a flat surface to work on and lay down your journal. Next, stencil the Diamond Stencil design onto the left page with a bright purple paint, and then dab various parts of the two pages with purple and a rich teal paint and let dry. If it appears too bright, you can do a little ‘covering up’ with additional layers.
Step 2 – Glue some torn vintage ledger paper on parts of both pages, then mix some clear gesso with yellow acrylic paint and paint over the ‘brightness’ of the other colors. When dry, the clear gesso mixture with the yellow acrylic paint creates a nice ‘tooth’ for journaling, especially with a pencil.
Step 3 – Once the gesso and yellow paint wash has dried, add small brushstrokes of white acrylic paint in a few areas.
Step 4 – To add more texture and interest, stencil in a different design. We went with the Hexagon Stencil and the Well Rounded Stencil, using a light blue acrylic paint.
Step 5 – Once dry, use the large Circle Clear Stamp and clearly impressed acrylic mounts to stamp the design along some of the outer edges of the pages with black ink.
Step 6 – Next, stamp out the word “Gratitude” onto the bottom of the right page using the letters from the Scratch Alphabet Clear Stamp Set. You can experiment and write out another meaningful word, whatever works with your aesthetics and how you’re feeling.
Step 7 – Use patterned washi tape to tie all the artistic elements together.
Although your page may look like it’s done, the project is far from over! Whether it’s daily, monthly, or just every now and then, journal on your “Gratitude” page to keep track of what you are thankful for. Use crayons, pens, and colored pencils to jot down your thoughts. This art journal page is meant to be dynamic, and it can be molded over time, an ever-changing collage. This is a creative way to remind yourself of your blessings, great and small.
