How to: Mixed-Media Ribbon Canvas + Go-Organize.com Giveaway

[On the Blog] How To: Woven Mixed-Media Ribbon Canvas Project by Sarah DonawerthProject by Sarah Donawerth.

When asked to create a ribbon project for the blog, initially all I could think of was bows and gift packaging. Ribbon seems synonymous with tying bows and finishing wrapped packages, but this project takes the beloved partner of wrapping paper and plunges it headfirst into the mixed-media world.

This artwork’s foundation is a woven ribbon background that is used like a piece of canvas. The textured background gives added dimension to the piece.

Supplies:

Instructions:

Cut 16 strips of canvas ribbon to 8.5” each.

Starting at the top and working down, weave your ribbon together into a square, pinning in place as you go.

With a sewing machine, zigzag stitch down the middle of each ribbon, both horizontally and vertically.

Use a makeup sponge or blending tool to dab on turquoise and magenta paint. The purple color is created by mixing the two colors gradually as thin layers of each are sponged on. Let dry.

Dab on a very thin layer of sterling silver to surface to give it a little bit of shimmer.

Mix sterling paint with texture paste to create a thicker mixture and dab through a stencil in the corners of the canvas.

Cut out clip art from Papaya Art clip art bundle and attach to canvas with gel medium or other adhesive.
