From Where I Stand: Caption Contest

Think about a time when you were challenged to see something differently simply by changing your viewpoint. Use that memory as inspiration to write up a fitting caption for the image above.

If this photo doesn’t evoke immediate ideas for a caption, we’d like to extend another option. (It’s always good to have a “plan B” right?) If you’re feeling particularly brave, describe the event in which you were challenged to see something from another angle. Lend us your perspective in the comments below while limiting your story to a 100 word max.

“Every Cloud has a Silver Lining”
I like looking at cloud formations and seeing that part of nature in the hub of the city. The close up of the telescope and all the lines and angles in the picture have a silver-like coloring. This is my favorite quote that was shared with me by my favorite Aunt many years ago.

Through these lens, I see that I am an Artist after all.
Sometimes it helps to have binoculars to look at the world we live in. We have so many things going on around us it all gets a bit muddled and hazy. To look closely at one particular aspect of our day may allow us to the time to appreciate the blessings we have. Focus on the simple daily things we take for granted and find something to smile about….you will like you are on top of the world.

I MADE IT! Life goal fulfilled.
As my mother begins a new adventure, retirement, I strive to look at her choices via her point-of-view. She’s writing again, she’s moving to a lovely East coast town (thousands of miles away), and she’s deciding what to do with things in her house. When she talks about what she wants retirement to look like, she tells me what she is going to do to make the transition. Now.. I have plenty of opinions; however, I have made a choice to let Me Mum have the freedom retire without my input coming into view.. may it be a Grand Adventure!

Life is demanding we want everything right now as fast as possible and often don’t realize we are so impatient. I submitted work and an article to a couple of Stampington publications which took great courage and when I did not hear from back right away, I assumed my work was not worthy. The crazy things we tell ourselves in the looking glass. I looked away and looked back again, and it hit me. Don’t give up until it happens. You have to see the horizon, the bigger picture, not just the surface of any situation cause that, can be deceiving.
All I see, for as far as the eye can see, is opportunity.
What a life! To get to see New York only one coin’s worth at a time!
When the light of the eye sees, the heart is full of joy!

My thoughts on aging…youth is wasted on the young!

“The Empire looks back”
Oh beautiful, for spacious skys….
I was challenged to see religion in a new light and to respect ALL religions regardless of their beliefs simply by taking a college course years ago entitled “Intro to World Religion.” It’s the best thing I’ve ever done and opened my eyes to understand that they’re religion is just as important to them as mine is to me. “Judge less….love and respect more”. This is my caption for this picture.
My daughter had a difficult teacher in fourth grade. I thought of moving her out of the classroom, but decided against it. I explained to my daughter, sometimes we need to adjust our lens and look again. She said, “What do you mean?”
I told her, “sometimes when someone is irritable -maybe someone they love is sick or they are having a bad day. Maybe, they just need a bit more kindness, a smile, a kind word, a helping hand.” My daughter looked at people differently, after this. We both agreed, we have to adjust our lens, refocus a lot in life. When we see someone that is a grump, we adjust our lens. We hope they will see a bit more clearly! We whisper to each other a lot when we are in public, “adjust your lens”, and we smile.
I can SEE clearly now!

Thank you for sharing! I think I should “adjust my lens” more while driving on the freeway in particular. :)
I teach Kindergarten and one year I had a student that had not finished an assignment of writing numbers. I sent it home in the “Return to School” side of the folder. The student returned the folder every day with it undone. This continued for weeks. When I later met with the parents, the father said “We read those numbers every night but the paper keeps coming home…” I laughed and laughed realizing I had not effectively communicated the assignment. We were both frustrated but I learned to stop and consider the other side before becoming upset…

I successfully ran a business with my Dad, but while my father was battling lung cancer, I had to tell him that we lost our largest client to a buyout. It broke my heart, but he told me to pursue my dreams, he had faith in my just like the first time, and I had to have faith in myself. I found the silver lining in my bridal accessories. I now have my Etsy site and a shop in Frankfort, Illinois. Far from the world of Medical Transcription but a new and separate joy!
Stark interprises have launched the new fog lifter robot on one of the high rise buildings in New York City so that Mr. Toni Stark can see where he is going….. :O/
Life can feel remote and bleak when you see things in black and white. Live in COLOR!

I remember the first time I saw one of these amazing machines! I was young, probably 5 years old. I remember watching as my parents put a nickel into the slot. Then my father held me up so I could look through the lenses. I heard the timer ticking as I saw the mountains and the clouds up close, closer than ever before. It was the neatest experience I’d had up to that age. Wow!

They do not know all that I have seen over all the years I have been here.
I was recently laid off from a job I loved- it has made me look at my priorities differently, and it has become an opportunity to learn new skills as I look for a new job to love.
A friend had asked me if I thought my job “demeaning”.. As I emptied the pan from his
potty the next day I decided No: Who would I rather be? The 94 year old man confined to a wheelchair who’d had to USE it in my presence..
