Incredible Wish List Organizer

“If you have a goal, write it down. If you do not write it down, you do not have a goal – you have a wish.”

Wish List

Whether a wish or a list, we’ve all got things we need or want to do – like chores, grocery goodies or other fancies, and many times they never see the light of day. With this artful project, our Editor-in-Chief Christen Olivarez shows us a stress-relieving way to de-clutter the lengthy lists that pile up in our minds and get them onto paper where they can be seen.

For svelte storage and a sophisticated look, Christen uses a cigar box as a container – how clever?! Then, with a few snips, stamps and strips of lovely embellishments, behold: a new book of ideas is ready to write on. To infuse your own flair, you can use different colors or patterns of washi tape or add personal memorabilia – like tickets from your favorite musical or a treasured quote. Now you’ll never let another wish slip your mind with this super simple project!

    What a lovely idea!

I use a lot of those round tins with the glass insert in the lids, for beads and other jewelry supplies. That way I can either label them, or see what’s inside each one. Then they go into labelled drawers. I also use hatboxes to store craft supplies, with manila tags tied on with raffia, and lots of old cigar boxes.

Actually, my favorite organizing tool is an electronic label-maker a friend gave me. I make a lot of those stick-on tape labels, for anywhere I can put one. I even made a few with arrows pointing down, to go on the edge of a shelf where the lower shelf is hidden, so I won’t forget what’s in the boxes down below.

  2. Judy says:

I bought a two tiered bamboo rice steamer and have stored my craft and sewing supplies inside. it looks attractive on my work table and I can find necessary items quickly.

  3. Jessica S. says:

Plastic shoeboxes that I can find at the dollar store or other discount stores are a great size for ribbons, adhesives, tools, and other treasures that I incorporate into my mixed media artwork. I tape a label on the inside of the box so I know what is suppose to go in there to remind me to put things away when I am done using them so i can find them later. This is actually one of my biggest challenges.

  4. Lisa M says:

I used to store my buttons, flowers and other decoratives sorted into separate containers by color, size, etc. That soon got out of hand because I just didn’t have the space to store it all near at hand. So I changed up the way I store everything. For instance, now all of my flowers are together in one drawer, mixed up like crazy. Instead of opening five different containers to “try” five different flower colors or sizes, I can just reach in a drawer and pull out a bunch of different possibilities. Seems counterproductive to have things “less” orderly than before, but it actually saves a lot of time and trouble.

  5. Ellen says:

A lot of my craft supplies are organized in tins and tea pots. I love seeing my Sari silk swirled inside, when I lift the lid on my favorite tea pot.

I do need to organize my list making. I love this idea :D Lately, I have been using a small clipboard covered with quotes. I place all my Post-its, poetry finds and art ideas on it. It is much neater, but I like the idea of a box and it all in one spot! I write a lot of stuff on napkins, too. I like this goal gathering idea!

I use fabric tote bags (of various sizes); a handle is built in!

  7. Patty Pittala says:

For all the lists running through my head, I always reach for the larger size index cards with a hole punched in the corners and large key ring/jump rings that keep them together. Easy to personalize the cards using a stamps, colorful markers, doodles along with notes and lists. And you can group ringed bundles together by topics and you can switch out cards with new ones without having to tear out pages, as with a notebook. Works for me!

  8. Christi says:

Organizing things: I use the carts with numerous drawers & I label the heck out of everything! Like already mentioned I also use a mechanical label maker to label everything that doesn’t move. I save every glass jar, every container that can be re-used and I use them for my brushes, markers & such. Thanks for the great ideas everyone!

  9. Becky Green says:

I organize my Stamp Sentiments in a Recipe box! I also add pictures of inspiration, card sketches, Pen pals when I had them, & Instructions on Special Creations! As I purchase my stamps I organize/ write them down as close to how they look (you could stamp them if you wanted to–just trying to save space!) AND sometimes, I have to write them more than once to file them properly!

  10. Jackie says:

I use baskets to organize my art supplies. Some have handles so I can easily carry them.

  11. tina zappone says:

Old suitcases for stamps and stamppads, a large wicker basket for rolled sheets of decorative paper, altoid tins and whitman sampler boxes for mini game pieces, buttons and unusual found objects, porcelain bowls and glass goblets for storing in plain sight those treasures too beautiful to be tucked away.

  12. Lana Manis says:

Love this project! I’m definitely a list girl. Have them in several notebooks and I love when I can cross something off the list because it has been completed or come true! It feels wonderful!

  13. Laura Strack says:

I keep all my stencils/mask in clear tubs that slide under the bed. I can see through it but best of all my stencils remain flat. Thanks for the inspiration.

  14. Renee says:

I have a shelf system for embellishments (mason jars for flowers by color), trays from Dollar Store, etc. For my stamps, each set is removed from it’s original cellophane wrapper and placed in a clear bag from Clearbags.com. Then each is hooked to chrome towel-rod-type-thing hung on the wall, and each stamp set is hang on swivel clips. I love it!

  15. melissa soucy says:

I use a lot of expandable folders that are labeled for outdoor projects sewing project craft projects did I tear out of magazines keep them nice and handy to find
