Please join me in welcoming to our blog the lovely and talented Tricia Lee Whitmer: brilliant photographer, frozen yogurt fanatic, and guest artist published in Artful Blogging Autumn 2013. Today she shares how Instagram has transformed her photography and gives practical tips to inspire image-capturing moments.

For years, since I started this photography business, I’ve filled my workload by photographing people and the real emotion that takes place on a day-to-day basis in their lives and relationships.  Although it will always be the heart and soul of my business and what brings me the most joy, I have recently found myself surrendering to the instant gratification of iPhone photography and Instagram.

Instagram has allowed me to connect with so many creative people and experience the magic of their faraway places around the world in a way that is completely different than other social media outlets simply because of their photographs. I have often failed at a 365 Project or even a 52 Project, but using my iPhone has allowed me the opportunity to finally enjoy doing a photo a day and it has even changed my creativity when I am shooting with my DSLR.

But the reason that I am most smitten with Instagram is because I’ve found that since I’ve been using it, I am much more aware of how filled with loveliness my life is. When you start looking for beauty and whimsy and grace to share with others you find them all in abundance. Instagram reminds me to capture, share and be grateful for this amazing life that I get to live!

Although nothing will ever compare to my love for the people that I capture on a regular basis, a little iPhone creativity is a fantastic creative outlet.
