Creating Texture with Resin Sheets by Guest Artist Cat Kerr
Today’s post is by Guest Artist Cat Kerr. She shares her technique for using embossing folders to create textured resin sheets for her artwork. Somerest Place would like to thank her for her amazing artwork and video.
I’m addicted to incorporating texture into my work and so when I first tried this technique and it didn’t ruin my embossing folder, well, I just about fell off my chair! This is a fun and easy way to add texture to your art and the absolute best thing about this technique is the endless amount of embossing folder designs out in the market.
Materials:
- Amazing Casting Resin
- Retro Cafe Art Gallery Mini Shrines
- Star embossing folder
- Deco Arts Paints
- Gesso
- Scissors
- Wax paper
- Tacky glue
Cat Kerr is a mixed-media artist and has been published in Somerset Apprentice, Somerset Studio Gallery, Belle Armoire Jewelry, Sew Somerset, Somerset Memories, and Somerset Studio.

Not sure from your video whether you used the Clear or White version of the Amazing Casting Resin. As it went white that may be the answer, although I didn’t see the resin before you painted it so it COULD have gone clear when completely dry.
This is a wonderful idea, and I want to try it as soon as I can get to a store and get some of the Resin.
Cat Kerr used the white resin for her project, although I don’t think it matters as long as you use an opaque paint when finishing the project.
Great idea, and I love new uses for old supplies.
I thought this was a lovely idea for creating the sheets, thanks for the inspiration!

I just love this idea. The possibilities are endless. I design jewelry and this would be great to repurpose bangles and such. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you for sharing your process with us. I don’t know too much about resin and it was so informative to watch your video. Looks like fun!
An incredible tutorial from the amazingly inspirational Cat Kerr.
I so wish I had embossing folders but as I don’t own a die cutting machine I haven’t purchased folders. Maybe it’s time for a re-think on the embossing folders!
Thank you for sharing.
