Sometimes, it’s all about how you view something. A simple change in perspective can make all the difference in mixed-media art. A whimsy is defined as “an odd or fanciful notion” and that is what these mini canvases are. They are a collection of the odd and fanciful items from The Shoppe and experiment with gelatos and new materials, like Relics and Artifacts, to create something that is decidedly full of new perspectives and whimsies.

Supplies:

[On the Blog] Perspectives and Whimsies Mini Canvases Project + A Giveaway

Directions:

Collage an assortment of paper in geometric patterns onto the background of your substrate with gel medium. Let dry.

Dry brush white and turquoise paint over the collaged paper. Let dry, then lightly distress background with brown paint.

Once the paint is completely dry, blend silver, gold, and metallic icing gelatos over painted surface. Set aside.

Paint Relics and Artifacts medallions with gold metallic paint. Let dry, and then age with an assortment of blended metallic gelatos.

Stamp texture onto the background.

Highlight pieces of the canvas with iced rosé and gold gelatos.

For added texture, apply a light layer of Finnabair’s Platinum Crackle Texture Paste. Let the texture paste completely dry before moving forward.

Glue the Relics and Artifacts medallions with strong-hold glue.

Stamp texture  from Dina Wakley’s Positive Women and Anna Corba’s French Words onto the canvas.
