Free Project Idea: Orange Spice Wassail Soaps + Polishing My Life Giveaway!
There is one Fall tradition that I remember more than any other. When the air gets colder and the leaves start to change, my mom starts brewing wassail for everyone to drink. It fills the whole house with the smell of cloves, cinnamon, and warm cider, and reminds me of holiday parties from years past. For this project, I created these orange spice wassail soaps so that I could recreate that scent memory whenever I wanted. These soaps have the scrumptious smell of wassail just ready to be released with the suds and bubbles.
Supplies:
- Honey soap base
- Cinnamon essential oil
- Orange essential oil
- Pink Himalayan salt or dried orange peel (for exfoliant)
- Soap mold
- Advantus Tim Holtz Idea-ology Postale Tissue Wrap
- Mango seam binding ribbon
- Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stain — Walnut Stain
- Antique Chinese coins
Instructions:
Prep soap mold by spritzing with rubbing alcohol or vodka. This will ensure that the soaps pop out of the molds easily.
Cut honey soap base into small chunks and put in a microwave-safe dish. Microwave for 30 second increments until all of soap is melted, stirring occasionally. Tip: I used a paper straw to stir the soap, so that I wouldn’t have to clean wax off of any utensils.
Mix in Orange and Cinnamon Leaf essential oils until desired scent is achieved. For these soaps, use 3 drops of Orange for every drop of Cinnamon Leaf used so that the cinnamon scent doesn’t overpower the citrus smell. For these two soaps, I used about 10-15 drops of Cinnamon Leaf and plenty of Orange.
Pour soap mixture into the soap molds. Sprinkle pink Himalayan salt or dried orange peel on the tops of the soaps for some added exfoliant. Allow to set in the fridge for 20 minutes.
Packaging:
Crinkle seam binding ribbon, spray with Tim Holtz Distress Stain and set aside to dry.
Wrap each soap in Tim Holtz’s Postale Tissue Wrap and hold in place with a small piece of tape.
Once seam binding ribbon is dry, tie it around the soaps and trim excess.
Thread a piece of twine through the Chinese coins and tie them to the seam binding ribbon.
